Artist: Sean Joy Rosario Cabanig
Exhibition: “ALL WORK ALL PLAY”
Media: Metals (Copper, Sterling Silver, Brass, Enamel, Fishing Wire) and Spray Paint
Sean Joy Rosario Cabanig is attending her last semester here at CSULB. Originally, she was enrolled as an English-writing major in Poetry. In high school, she didn’t know what she wanted to major in but just knew that she wanted to go to college. She loved to paint and draw as a child, and never considered making 3-dimensional art. However after taking an intro to metals class she developed a love for them. She realized how versatile metals are and how amazing it is to work with them. Sean especially loves silver because of how precious it is (silver is easier to melt and harder to treat, so she feels especially accomplished after polishing a metal piece). She loves being hands-on with her work.
Thoughts behind title of exhibit: often she gets too absorbed in accomplishing the task, without taking time to think about pleasing herself and having fun.
In terms of her art style – She tends to be simple in terms of color. She experiments from time to time, but she feels as though she should just use it when it fits the piece. In the future Sean hopes to continue her metal work. She’s considering grad school and currently working on a studio. She wants to spend time travelling and being inspired and putting that inspiration into her art.
Inspires her art: Experimental, environment, people, mood, random thoughts, humor especially.
She grew up near koreatown.
